Day 10

1 John 2-3-5

“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,  but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:

What does it mean to be a Jesus follower?  At the heart of it, it is really just the life of Jesus, pressed out in our lives. It can also be said, “the life of Jesus lived out through us.”  How does that look?  It looks like obedience.  You see, many people complicate what it looks like to be a Jesus follower.  We want to define it as how much we do for Jesus (i.e. how much I attend church, how much I give, or how often I serve).  But, at its core, a Jesus follower is someone who obeys Jesus.  This requires knowing Him to know what He wants us to do.  Reading and knowing His word is a great start, and one of the first and best ways to know Him.  Prayer is another.  Another way is spending time with other believers.  All of these ways allow us to know Jesus more intimately, and when we know Him, He reveals His will in our lives.  This is part of the love relationship that Jesus gives to us, and what we ought to give back to him.
